In December 2023, YKK Lanka, in collaboration with the Health Ministry, successfully completed the construction of a much-needed outpatient ward at Avissawella Hospital, marking the fourth such commitment in YKK Lanka’s history.
This new facility replaced the 1999-built “Mangala Sayanaya Complex,” which was deemed unsafe after 24 years of use. The Hospital Development Committee proposed the construction of a new ward in September 2023 to accommodate nearly 800 outpatients daily, with an estimated cost of 1.2 million LKR.
Seeking financial assistance from zonal factories, YKK Lanka agreed to contribute 30% of the cost, and construction was completed by December 2023. The Seethawaka Export Processing Zone, with 33 investors on 180 acres of land, has the base hospital as the primary contact point for emergencies among its 23,000-strong labor force.
Our contribution to building the outpatient ward was acknowledged as a positive social obligation, with the facility able to accommodate 250 patients simultaneously.
