Prior to Brigada Eskwela, the first day of school comprises of members of the school getting involved in cleaning, decorating and preparing the school for the start of a new school year. The tides have turned, primarily due to Brigada Eskwela.
Brigada Eskwela refers to National Schools Maintenance Week. It is initiated by the Department of Education in the Philippines more than a decade ago, that aims to deliver a clean and safe learning environment for the Filipino students. It highlights volunteerism among members of the community as these people including members of the school, parents, alumni, community leaders, private organizations and government agencies come together to put in time and effort towards building a better place for the students of today who may be the future leaders of tomorrow.
These selfless beings often engage in laborious tasks such as repainting walls, cleaning windows and repairing fences, just to name a few. Despite the hard work, the thought of enhancing the place where their children engage in their learning journey gives them the strength to finish the tasks.
As most resources are generated from donations, this is where YKK contributes. YKK has been donating to Brigada Eskwela since 2017. These donations comprises of school supplies and cleaning equipment. YKK also assists in other areas of need such as repainting old chairs to providing knowledge pertaining to emergency drills and personal hygiene.
