As part of YKK Sri Lanka’s CSR activities and following to YKK’s Sustainability Vision 2050, YKK Sri Lanka has been collecting PET bottles from neighbouring factories in Seethawake Export and Processing Zone (SEPZ) from the 12 PET bottle collection cages planted by YKK Sri Lanka since 2019. 

The bottles will be sent for recycling at ECO Spindles every quarter. ECO Spindles converts wastes into valuable products like yarn, while reducing environmental impact with their cutting-edge recycling technology. 

With the yarn from ECO Spindles, the plastic waste collected will eventually be upcycled into NATULON® Ocean Sourced™ zippers, which is YKK’s collection of zippers made from ocean bound plastic collected within 50km of the coastline of Sri Lanka. 

In 2022, YKK Sri Lanka has collected a total of 19,890 500ml PET bottles and produced 55,112 Natulon® Ocean Sourced Zippers from the collected yarn!
