Welcome to yet another #Zipper101! Previously, we learned about the three types of zippers and all about Metal and Coil Zippers.
This episode, we will be learning about VISLON® Zippers!
What are VISLON® Zippers and what are they made of?
VISLON® zippers are also known as molded plastic zippers. They are made of plastic elements, such as polyacetal resin, which are then injected into the tape.
Being made of plastic elements, VISLON® zippers are lighter than our metal zippers of the same size.
In 1973, the name, ‘VISLON®’ was first registered as a trademark of YKK CORPORATION in Japan and subsequently registered in other countries/regions.
Rich element color variations are created by formulating the color pigment during the injection process.
Like all zippers, the tape colour can be chosen from YKK Colour Card, which consists of 582 standard colours!
Natulon® products are also available with VISLON® zippers. Aside from Natulon® products, YKK also offers No Dyestuff Zipper as part of our eco-friendly product line.
No Dyestuff zipper features zipper tape and elements in their natural, raw colors, significantly reducing water usage which arises from the dyeing process. The process for making no dyestuff zippers, however, is not completely waterless, as water is used when rinsing the zipper chains during post production.
Different Variations of VISLON® Zippers
Being made from plastic elements, VISLON® zippers can be molded into different shapes and sizes, giving them the most variety out of all three types of zippers.
In this article, let us introduce 5 unique VISLON® zippers!
METALUXE® is a VISLON® zipper that features metallic elements to achieve an elegant & luxurious metal look.
As compared to standard metal zippers, METALUXE® zippers are lighter due to the slimmer plastic elements.
METALUXE® zipper is available in a wide variety of metal finish colors, as well as a couple of variations to it.
VISLON® Slim zippers are known as YKK’s softest, lightest and most packable VISLON® zipper. They are 25% thinner and 23% lighter than a standard VISLON® zipper, making them suitable for most apparel and sportswear. Pairing VISLON® Slim with a plastic slider further reduces weight by up to 67%!
However, being lightweight, VISLON® Slim is not recommended for luggage, bags, shoes or heavy garments.
QuickFree® zipper has a release function that allows the slider to “snap” open when a certain load is applied, opening the zipper without the need to lower the slider.
The design aims to improve operability by adults when dressing children and by the elderly.
VISLON® Zippers have a unique variety, due to the plastic molded elements, which allows room for creativity and innovation. However, the functionality of VISLON® Zippers is not lost in the process and can be used on a wide range of products.
